CNA studies can take a lot of time--in some cases even years. So it is best to know what awaits for you. Certified nursing assistant jobs are not going to be walk in the park. It is a difficult profession and certainly not for everybody, however for the right person there are many rewards.
Still, if you are committed to getting your CNA certification, you will be glad to know this career can be very fulfilling and enjoyable. Despite the long hours you will have lots of ways to help people and feel very useful in a professional medical environment.
Mount Horeb High School has several different paths that we can help you maneuver through and in some cases help support the financial cost in successfully completing the certification program. Additionally, there may be some great opportunities to utilize and build on your skills in the Health Services Youth Apprenticeship program
General Requirements:
· 16 years of age
· Background Information Disclosure
· Health History to show vaccinations are up to date. Additionally you will need:
o Two TB tests
o Flu shot (most cases)
· Availability to ensure 100% attendance for scheduled classes, clinicals, and labs. (state requirement)
· State Licensure satisfactory completion
Below is a description of options we can help you maneuver through. It is appropriate to note that while the high school supports and encourages the industry certification, we do not control or manage these programs.
Madison College
Nursing assistant course--must be enrolled in
Required to complete:
Hybrid courses are common
Courses—Truax, Reedsburg, Portage, South Campus
Successfully complete the course and then take state skill licensure test.
If you would like to have the district consider paying for the course, you must get approval prior to enrolling.
You will earn 3 credits and this can be included on your high school transcript for .75 credits

Ingleside Manor
Ingleside Manor, in a means to train their employees, will offer training with the intention those that participate will agree to employment.

There are several companies in the Madison area such as Quality CNA that will offer programs. Many are associated with the WisCaregiver Careers
If you would like to have the district consider paying for the course, you must get approval prior to enrolling.
Quality CNA runs programs traditionally through Monona Grove, District Office and New Glarus.

- Accuplacer Test—reading comprehension component
- Upload the following documents through Castle Branch (complete account with them)
- Background Information Disclosure
